Yuan et al. report that the plant lnc-eRNA XSER1 recruits the transcription factor OsbHLH94 to enhance chromatin accessibility and promote chromatin looping, thereby activating the histone-demethylase gene OsJMJ707 and suppressing rice disease resistance. XSER1 knockdown conferred resistance to bacterial and fungal diseases, showing broad-spectrum disease resistance without developmental defects.
